John Zink Company Technology Selected for Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline Project
TULSA, Okla., Sept. 7, 2004 - BOTAS Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) has selected John Zink Company, LLC as the supplier of choice to design and build a marine vapor-combustion emission control system for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) crude oil pipeline project.
"Zink is proud to participate in this multi-national project to realize the transportation of oil from the Caspian region to world markets," said Harold Dinsmore, vice president of John Zink Company's vapor control technology division. "Our vapor control products and technology will help BOTAS achieve its goals of reducing emissions and improving environmental excellence for the BTC pipeline project."
The 1,800-kilometer BTC pipeline, currently under construction, will originate in Baku, Azerbaijan, run through Tbilisi, Georgia and terminate in Ceyhan, Turkey. It will transport approximately 160,000 cubic meters per day of crude oil from the Caspian Sea to international markets via the Mediterranean deep-water port. The system is scheduled for commissioning in early 2005, and will be one of the largest of its kind in the world.
Zink engineers have designed the vapor-combustion technology to safely collect and destroy evaporative hydrocarbon vapors generated during the supertanker loading process at the termination point of the new pipeline. The emission control system will capture and eliminate hydrocarbons that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere.
With its vapor combustion and recovery systems, Zink provides petrochemical terminals around the world with state-of-the-art solutions to control emissions from such sources as storage tank vents; truck, rail car, and marine-loading operations; process vents; and tank cleaning/degassing activities.
BOTAS, a Turkish government entity, is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Turkish section of the BTC pipeline project.
